TAROUBA: Mohammad Ali took a four-wicket haul as Pakistan folded West Indies for 311 in the first innings on day two of the first Test at the Brian Lara Stadium.
Pakistan curtailed West Indies’ innings shortly after lunch as Shai Hope was denied a well-deserved hundred. Ali pinned hope on the crease while he was batting on 92.
After lunch, the Men in Maroon could only add two to the total before Shamar Joseph was caught for 23. Jayden Seales was the last wicket to fall, bowled by Mohammad Ali without scoring.
Mohammad Ali finished with the figures of 4-50 from 21.5 overs, while Mohammad Abbas picked up three wickets in his 26 overs.
Earlier, Shai Hope carried West Indies into lunch after weathering early blows from Mohammad Abbas and Khurram Shahzad.
The home side scorecard read 303-7 with Hope standing unbeaten on 89 from 174 deliveries with the help of six boundaries and a maximum. Shamar Joseph also chipped in, scoring 23 not out off 12, hitting a six and four boundaries.
Pakistan made an early breakthrough in the morning session, dismissing well-set Kavem Hodge for 84 after West Indies had resumed on 194-3 following a rain-truncated opening day.

Khurram Shahzad struck early as Hodge edged to second slip, where Salman Ali Agha held the catch, with the hosts having added just two runs to their overnight total.
After a 91-run partnership, West Indies lost their way, losing two wickets in quick succession despite brief stands.
Justin Greaves and Shai Hope added 34 runs for the fifth-wicket partnership before Mohammad Ali’s hard work paid off. The right-arm pacer got Justin Greaves shortly after Hope had been dropped by Azan Awais in the slips. Greaves only managed 15.
With 231-5, skipper Roston Chase arrived at the crease. He added 26 with Hope before Abbas found his edge, with Mohammad Rizwan taking a safe catch by the stumps. Chase made 10.
With the tail exposed, Pakistan sensed an opportunity to close out the innings, but Hope batted impressively, including an elegant six over cover off Shahzad. He then shared a 17-run stand with Kemar Roach (3) to take West Indies to 274.
By lunch, West Indies had crossed the 300-run mark.
