HARARE: India have returned to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Rankings after sealing the series against Zimbabwe.
The Men in Blue had slipped from No.1 after a 4-0 series defeat to England. However, the 2026 World Cup winners reclaimed the spot after winning the first two matches of the tour.
In the opening match, the visitors outplayed the hosts by seven wickets as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his mark with a maiden T20I half-century. The left-hander hit 50 off 19, striking four sixes and four fours, to help India ace the 126-run target.
In the second T20I, the Men in Blue piled up 219-5 in 20 overs, thanks to Ishan Kishan’s and Tilak Varma’s blazing half-centuries. Both scored 81 and 60* runs, respectively.

In reply, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 129 inside 17 overs. Abhishek Sharma starred with the ball and picked up three wickets.
After the match, top-scorer Ishan Kishan revealed his game plan, highlighting the importance of assessing the conditions.
“We were down two wickets, but at the same time, as a batter batting at no.3, your job is to just watch the ball and play your natural game,” he said,
“You also have to understand the wicket, there were a lot of thoughts going in whether we want to end up getting 250, 230 or if the wicket is just about getting 170-180 runs,” he added.
“Shreyas Iyer came in, and we just wanted to build a partnership and take the innings deep. And I think we executed our plans in a good manner.”
