Harry Kane opens up on singing 'Wonderwall' with England fans

England team captain Harry Kane has relished singing ‘Wonderwall’ alongside jubilant fans after his side’s emphatic win over Croatia in the FIFA World Cup 2026. 

Kane scored a brace in England’s 4-2 victory in Dallas on Wednesday, marking a resounding start to their World Cup campaign.

Following the match, the England team celebrated by singing Oasis’ hit song in front of ecstatic fans at the Dallas Stadium

Speaking on the Lions’ Den podcast, Kane described the opening win against Croatia as one of his favorite moments.

“That was one of my favorite ever moments in an England shirt and especially at a major tournament,” Kane said.

Wonderwall, originally released by the British rock band Oasis in 1995, has become a massive unofficial anthem for English sports supporters. It serves as a unifying sing-along track used by fans and players to celebrate victories and forge emotional connections during major international tournaments.

“I know it’s just the first game and we’re not getting carried away, but just that emotional connection with the fans… We know how much it means to them,” he explained.

“We have that connection right now but just that moment, singing Wonderwall in the stadium… Everyone knew the words and that was a really special moment,” Kane said.

During the match, Kane also equaled his idol David Beckham’s record with 115 international appearances for England.

“David sent me a nice voice note before the game and after the game,” said Harry Kane.

“He just congratulated me on getting ​to 115. He said he ​knows how hard it is ⁠to be that consistent and to reach that many caps.”

England will play Ghana next in Group L in Boston on 23 June.
