Barcelona target Harry Kane in 'ambitious' summer transfer move: report

Barcelona have reportedly identified Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane as their top target to replace Robert Lewandowski, with reports claiming the Spanish giants have already made initial contact with the England captain’s representatives.

According to the Daily Mail, the Catalan club has begun exploring the possibility of signing Kane to fill in Lewandowski’s shoes.

Barcelona are understood to be searching for a proven goalscorer capable of leading their attack for the coming seasons, with Kane emerging as their preferred candidate despite the club’s well-documented financial constraints.

The report claims Barcelona are considering different financial structures to make a deal possible, particularly as the England captain is entering the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich.

However, initial discussions are said to have been met with little encouragement, with Kane’s representatives reportedly playing down the prospect of a transfer.

“The Bayern Munich striker, 32, has one year to run on his contract, and Barcelona are looking at ways to finance an ambitious move,” the report stated.

“Kane is extremely happy in Bavaria, and the Bundesliga champions would resist any attempt to sign their star player.

“We understand the player’s camp shut down the conversation after a phone call from Barca exploring a move. It is thought that their focus post-tournament will be a new deal at Bayern.”

The striker is currently focused on England’s knockout-stage campaign after enjoying an outstanding start to the tournament. Kane scored three goals during the group stage and recently became England’s all-time leading scorer in FIFA World Cup history.

His club form has been equally remarkable. Since joining Bayern Munich, Kane has continued his prolific scoring record, finishing the latest season with an impressive 61 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions.

With Bayern eager to retain their star forward, any negotiations are expected to prove difficult. Although Kane’s contract situation could strengthen Barcelona’s position, the Bundesliga champions would still be expected to demand a significant transfer fee.

Should the move eventually materialise, Kane would once again succeed Lewandowski, having previously replaced the Polish striker at Bayern following his departure to Barcelona in 2022.
