GLASGOW: Defending champion Arshad Nadeem dropped out of medal contention in the men’s javelin final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games at Scotstoun Stadium on Friday.

Overall, 12 athletes are participating in the final after the qualifying round.
Defending champion Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan, India’s Neeraj Chopra, Grenada’s Anderson Peters, Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott, and South Africa’s Douw Smit, alongside athletes from Australia, the Bahamas, England, India, Nigeria, and Sri Lanka.
Favourite Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, who impressed in the qualifying round, threw 89.75 metres with his first attempt to move clear of the field.
Yash Vir Singh set the lifetime best throw for India at 83.72 meters, followed by Neeraj Chopra, whose first throw was 80.97 meters.
Meanwhile, Arshad Nadeem remained ninth after managing 75.39m with his second attempt, failing to better his throw of 77.41m.
Nadeem reached the final after finishing seventh in the qualification round with a best throw of 78.63m.
No athlete met the automatic qualifying mark of 84m during the three-attempt qualification round, with the top 12 competitors advancing based on their best throws.
Ramesh Tharanga led the qualifiers with 82.84m, followed by Anderson Peters (81.29m) and Douw Smit (80.64m). England’s Ben East, Neeraj Chopra and Australia’s Cameron McEntyre also progressed, with Nadeem securing the seventh qualifying spot.
Pakistan’s Yasir Sultan missed out on the final after placing 14th with a best throw of 74.36m.
Nadeem entered the final as the defending champion after winning gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a throw of 90.18m.
